Isla Mujeres is one of the many places in Riviera Maya where every year many species of sea turtles spawn. Unfortunately, this is considered an endangered animal, so a place was built for its conservation and to raise awareness of its importance. This place is the Isla Mujeres Turtle Farm!
This can be considered as a new project, for it was carried out just a few years ago. Along with government funding and some donors was built a center to conserve and take care of big sea turtles and its eggs. It was also thought to stop illegal egg selling.
It is located very close to South Point and also next to a famous beach called Playa Lancheros; the entrance cost about 30 Mexican pesos.
This place was also intended for visitors to learn everything about their importance for the sea. You will see how the experts take care of the rescued ones, and even interact with these incredible animals.
You will see hundreds of turtles of different shapes and sizes, to feed them and to touch them!
However, if you are visiting this place, it is important to remember that these animals are not pets or toys, you have to treat them with care, respect and to follow the expert’s instructions. Especially if you are visiting this center with kids, make sure they understand that they have to be gentle and delicate with turtles.
